Let’s Talk About Boobs!
Breasts are something considered to be very special. Women and men both love them and may obsess over them a little too much I feel. Hollywood is just as obsessed with this unique body part and some women will go as far as going through surgery to implant artificial breasts. Besides the fact that they are nothing more than fatty tissues, breasts seem to be a nation wide phenomenon. Little girls catch on rather quickly with this fad and start stuffing their bras in hopes that it would speed up the process of growth. The truth is that breasts are nothing more than something to feed offspring with.
Girls reach puberty at different ages depending on their genes and heredity. Some girls will start growing them at as young as 8 years old where other girls might not show any growth until their early teens.
Thanks to the hormones in Milk and dairy, girls and boys are showing early growth in breast tissue. When breasts first start to develop the bump on your nipple called the breast bud will lead the way to breast growth. The bud gets bigger and then the breast follows. They become larger and rounder as time goes by. The areola, the dark area around your nipple, grows bigger and darker. Nipples have a variety of color including pink, light gray, brown, depending on your complexion. If you develop earlier than other girls it doesn’t mean you will have larger breasts, the same applies to girls that grow at a larger age. Size depends on heredity. It takes about 3-5 years to reach your full size. It’s normal for them to feel sore and tender during puberty and even during a women’s moon cycle.
A woman’s breast has pockets in them called alveoli which are where the milk is produced. Hormones are what signal the body to produce milk to feed a baby. The nipple has small holes where the baby will suck on to draw milk from the breast. Some women have even reported that the sound of their baby crying makes the breast produce milk and create leakage of milk from time to time. After they stop breast feeding the baby the alveoli stops producing milk slowly but surely.
It’s normal for breasts to be uneven and for it to have odd shaped nipples such as inverted nipples or nipples that turn out. These things will not affect your health in any way. Some women even produce more hair than other which is also completely normal. If the hair bothers you, you can trim the hair around your nipple with scissors. Stretch marks on your breasts are normal and due to rapid growth or decrease in size. If you keep your skin moisturized and drink enough water then it can increase elasticity in your skin and decrease the chance of stretch marks.
Discharge from the breast can be found at times. It’s important to know about breast health and signs of infection like discharge coming from the nipple. If your breast discharges brown, green or bloody discharge can come from your dilated breast duct which should be checked by a doctor. A yellow clear discharge may be a sign of a girl’s menstrual cycle soon to arrive. White milky discharge when not breast feeding can be a sign of becoming pregnant, result of medications high in hormones, low thyroid levels or a tumor. Any discharge should be checked out by a doctor and should not be ignored. The same goes for any lumps and bumps.
